Short-Term Exposure to Sterile Seawater Reduces Bacterial Community Diversity in the Sea Anemone, Exaiptasia diaphana

چکیده
The global decline of coral reefs heightens the need to understand how corals may persist under changing environmental conditions. Restructuring coral-associated bacterial community, either through natural or assisted strategies, has been suggested as a means adaptation climate change. A low complexity microbial system would facilitate testing efficacy restructuring strategies. We used model organism for corals, Exaiptasia diaphana , and determined that short-term (3 weeks) exposure filter-sterilized seawater conditions alone reduced microbiome. Metabarcoding V5–V6 region 16S rRNA gene revealed alpha diversity was approximately halved in anemones reared compared controls unfiltered composition (beta diversity) differed significantly between two. By reducing E. microbiome, development strategies such probiotics, is more feasible.

Laboratory-Cultured Strains of the Sea Anemone Exaiptasia Reveal Distinct Bacterial Communities
Exaiptasia is a laboratory sea anemone model system for stony corals. Two clonal strains are commonly used, referred to as H2 and CC7, that originate from two genetically distinct lineages and that differ in their Symbiodinium specificity. However, little is known about their other microbial associations. Here, we examined and compared the taxonomic composition of the bacterial assemblages of t...
متن کاملSexual Plasticity and Self-Fertilization in the Sea Anemone Aiptasia diaphana
Traits that influence reproductive success and contribute to reproductive isolation in animal and plant populations are a central focus of evolutionary biology. In the present study we used an experimental approach to demonstrate the occurrence of environmental effects on sexual and asexual reproduction, and provide evidence for sexual plasticity and inter-clonal fertilization in laboratory-cul...
متن کاملBacterial diversity in the intestine of sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus
The intestinal bacterial diversity of Stichopus japonicus was investigated using 16S ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) clone library and Polymerase Chain Reaction/Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE). The clone library yielded a total of 188 clones, and these were sequenced and classified into 106 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) with sequence similarity ranging from 88 to 100%. The cov...
